My inspiration is drawn from the aesthetics of the nineteenth century romantic landscape painters. By appropriating their visual tropes, I lure the viewer into a sense of familiarity. When I am painting I have Victorian period interiors, with their nooks and love of gallery wall hanging styles.
Because of this, I began painting small paintings, which I call 'miniatures'. They are usually 10cm x 15cm so not what we know as true miniatures, but they do hang beautifully on quiet, secluded wall spaces. Think of them on propped on book shelves, hung along the staircase wall of in pairs either side of a mantel piece.
